Jeff,

I send the audio from the cd/tape out to the Edirol, but I monitor all the audio sounds through the headphones jack on the mixer.

Note: While I'm monitoring the audio through the mixer headphones jack, I monitor the "LEVELS" of the audio using the VMU disply in the front panel of the Edirol Recorder.

If you are ever in need of purchasing any audio gear or in need of Podcast consulting, please email me at Cliff@Ravenscraft.org or call me at 859-620-2644.

I noticed you have used the in and out on your Edirol. Do you listen through the Edirol via headphones or use the headphones out plugged in to the Mixing Board? Or use the Mixing board's main out to listen to what you are recording?

This is a very informative podcasting tutorial - exactly what I needed to hear. I just bought an "all in one" kit (M-Audio), but I'm deciding if I should take it back and get a small setup similar to what you described -I'll have a co-host via Skype. Again, your service to the community is invaluable.

Cliff, What similarities! I also can't agree more with the mix minus and mixer setup. It is easier for me to bring a Skype call in separately than trying to to do it all internally.

I, too, use PodProducer, mix-minus, and the rest. I record with PodProducer and use a Marantz for the backup. I also use a separate UB-802 (the first one I started with) that I bring input in from the "Skype laptop" or the digital hybrid and output to a single input on the bigger Yahmaha mixer. This keeps me from having to make changes for when I do a skype call or a digital hybrid call.

Ditto the rest!

Cliff,

I made the same mistake with a recent camcorder purchase. I just assumed that it would have an external mic input (because every camcorder I've bought in the past has).

Well, when I discovered the omission, I took that camera back fast even though it cost me a $40 restocking fee. I got the next level up that did have an input.

Sadly, a lot of mid-grade camcorders are stripping the mic input out.
