Not sure I understand. So are you wanting to bring audio from the iphone's headphones jack into the Mac computer? If so, you can do that, but the only issue is that you would not be able to bring additional audio sources, such as your voice. When you tell your audio recording software to take the audio from the line in jack on the Mac, it will disable your onboard mic.

Cliff, great website. Can you go 1/8" out of iPhone's headphone jack to the Mac's mic input (1/8") and record directly?

Or do you have to go 1/8" out of iPhone to RCA/mixer?

I'm going to give the cell phone cable a shot with my Blackberry. I confirmed that the hands free mic/earphone cable I have for it does have four slots (TRS+1) and I messed around with a few cables I had laying around and it “should” work. I was able to order the 1/4 to 3 RCA cable and four of the RCA to 1/8 (one extra) for $10.47, so it is worth a shot. The cell option is great for me since I am only running one computer for my podcast and I already have plenty of stuff going in and out of it.

Actually, I was able to get it working on my wife's iPhone. I think I mentioned in the episode that my 1/8″ port on my phone has a short in it that keeps it from working with even my mic from my iPhone earbuds.

I brought down my wife's iPhones and sending the Aux out of my mixer into the iPhone works perfectly.

Now for that cable… Here's the deal.. when using a “non-Apple” cable, you need to know that the “RED” RCA is actually the return audio cable. The Yellow and White are the audio out of the iPhone.

I'm just waiting till June to get my new iPhone I guess.

Cliff. I tried the solution your last caller suggested with the rca cables. It does not work on the iphone. I called apple a few weeks ago and it is propriatory issue. I have kvconnections working on a custom adapter and will know in a couple weeks if it works for the iphone or not. kv will then asign a product code and let people order it on line for under $25. I will keep you posted.
