Is Podcasting Getting It’s Own Application in iOS 6?
By now, most podcasters have heard the rumors and speculation that Apple may be kicking podcasting out of the iTunes application and giving the podcasting platform its very own official podcasting application in iOS6. So far, all reactions to this information have been positive, where folks believe that this will be a great thing for podcasters.

I must admit that I was very excited at first. However, my skepticism began to creep in when I began to consider the various things that Apple has with done the podcasting platform in the past.

I encourage you to listen to this episode to hear my full reaction to the potential benefits and drawbacks of what “might” be happening to podcasting within the iOS6 update.

Podcast Artwork for $175
Most podcasters do not invest enough into the artwork for their podcast. The truth is that your podcast artwork is often what sets the 1st impression for your podcast. This is especially true when it comes to those who find your show in a podcast directory.

I’ve been working with Jenny Hamson for several years and she does all my podcast artwork. I’ve also personally contracted her to do the artwork for all of my coaching and consulting clients. In all the years that I have worked with Jenny, she’s never failed to provide artwork that not only meets expectations but delivers far more than could have been anticipated. If you are looking for artwork, please contact Jenny Hamson today and tell her that Cliff sent you!

I Appreciate Your iTunes Reviews!
I started Podcast Answer Man in December of 2006. Would you believe that until April 2012, I never spent much energy to ask anyone to provide a rating and/or review for this show in iTunes?

If you have ever read my blog post about how iTunes podcast ratings work, then you know just how valuable leaving a 5 star rating and/or a written review can be to a content producer.

I am so incredibly thankful to those who have recently gone into my listing in iTunes to provide a five start rating and a written review of Podcast Answer Man. Here are the iTunes reviews that have been posted from 5/26/2012 through 6/21/2012.

If you find that the Podcast Answer Man podcast has been valuable to you, would you consider rating and reviewing it in iTunes? If so, please click here.

@motoyen I'm shocked that they have not released an update to this app yet.  It's quite buggy.  I tried to use it for a few days, but then had to go back to pocketcasts

Cliff, speaking of iOS and OSX, has anyone ever tried to use the built in Podcast Capture or Podcast Publisher for Mac? They just don't seem useable to me! Maybe I'm missing something? Great idea though I guess

@Chris Langille I've never played around with it.  Sometimes Apple applications don't make much sense to me either.   I"m not a fan of iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, etc...

The new Apple podcast app is out and FINALLY we can subscribe to podcasts without having to do it with the iTunes app on your computer. Not a huge fan of the UI, the buttons seem a bit haphazardly placed and the tape deck metaphor is just stupid for a digital podcast. Overall I say like most Apple apps, this will please the masses but for power users there are far better options.

Cliff,

Looks like the Podcasts app is in the app store now.  Just saw it on my ipad.  Requires ios5.1, so I didn't grab it quite yet (need to update).  But it looks like its getting decent reviews.

@stobe1 It's a bit buggy for me.  However, it's much better than I thought it would be for a first iteration.

I understand your concerns and agree that I hope those don't come to fruition... but when I think about Apple's products, more often than not, Apple gets it right

@JPoteet I wish I could agree with you.  When it comes to hardware, they certainly have a better track record, though there have been quite a few flops there as well.  I have a laptop case full of dongles.  One Macbook at mini-dvi dongle to VGA, one for DVI, etc.  Then they went to Mini Display port and I had to buy all these dongles again.   At least when they went to Thunderbolt, they kept the same mini-display port connection.

And well, I literally hate the following software from Apple.... GarageBand, iWeb (Glad they put that to rest), iMovie (iMovie HD was actually pretty good back in the day), Apple contacts, iCal, and well... I could go on and on....

Apple's hardware products are mostly stunning.   Their OSX is AMAZING!   iOS is awesome but with massive amounts of intentional limitations.

Don't get me wrong.. I'm a total Apple Fan Boy... But I dont' think they get it right most of the time.  Just way more often than most other tech companies. :)

Totally agree with your assessment of the potential problems with Apple coming out with an podcasting app. Typically I find that with Apple software there is a lot of potential but it's crippled by their need to always dumb it down to cater to the last group of users that refuse to learn anything about how to use a computer.

My one wish from Apple would be to allow subscriptions to podcasts from the iTunes store on an iOS device. I can't tell you how annoying it is to try to explain to someone that first you have to subscribe on your computer and then sync you phone, etc. I want one click subscriptions and one click downloads on iOS devices.

@motoyen I'm so looking forward to seeing what they actually end up doing with it.  I'm trying not to set my expectations too high. ;)
