308 Three Reasons I Considered Going To Multiple Episodes Per Week And Three Reasons Why I Chose Not To Do So!

no3xThree PAM Episodes Per Week?
In this week’s episode of Podcast Answer Man, I explain why I had recently given a great deal of consideration to the thought of producing three 20 minute episodes or two 30 minute episodes, per week, instead of continuing my production of one 60 minute episode each week.

There are three reasons I had considered this change. First, I thought it would be good practice to apply the SCORRE method to each of my podcast episodes, having a focus on a single subject and one objective for each episode. Second, I thought it might make it easier to turn the archives of this podcast into a knowledge base where it would be easy to point people to a show with a single topic per episode. Third, I knew that if I doubled or tripled the amount of episodes I produced each week, I knew that it would increase the number of downloads that iTunes tracks, thus increasing my ranking and exposure within the iTunes podcast directory.

Ultimately, I came to the decision that I will not be moving to multiple episodes per week based upon three potential drawbacks. It would create a break in my consistency. I fear that I would end up overfeeding my audience, and it is simply a great deal more work to produce three shows in a week as compared to a single episode.

Tech Resource of The Week
This week’s Tech Resource of The Week is Scapple from http://LiteratureAndLatte.com. I attempted to explain what this tool does within the episode. However, I think it’s best understood by seeing what can be created with it. As promised, you can see the image or download the pdf that I exported to see the notes I used to produce this episode. Of course, their website has some other images that will inspire you as well. This is an amazing piece of software for just under $15.

Podcasting A to Z|
I am very excited about the fact that the next session of Podcasting A to Z will launch this coming Monday, May 20th. I’ve actually hired a consultant from my referral network to help assist me with answering technical questions. I’m completely reorganizing the weekly assignments to spread out the setup of the podcast more evenly throughout the four weeks of the course and I’m going to finally get the chance to produce the Guide To Recording Co-Hosts, Guests, & Telephone Interviews!

If you have been thinking about starting a podcast, this is the course for you. Just head over to http://PodcastingAtoZ.com for full details and use discount code “PAM” to save $100 off the cost of the course. I look forward to potentially working with you starting on Monday.

Podcast Mastermind Update
I launched the Podcast Mastermind back in February 2012. When I first announced the details in episode 246, I had no idea that this organization would be as successful as it has been and that so many lives would be positively impacted by it. In this episode, you’ll get to hear a testimony from Podcast Mastermind member Wade Wingler. How I Became A Confident Public Speaker!
250scorreOver the past two years, I have made a decision to put a great deal of focus on getting more involved in public speaking. In a short amount of time, I have made it to the place where I am being paid to speak at events. I have already given my first Keynote address, where I was the very first speaker that was given the opportunity to set the tone for an entire conference. As a result of my initial success, the opportunities for me to speak publicly have increased exponentially.

You would think that this is wonderful news right? It would be, except for one major issue. Until this past week, I have had no confidence in my technical skills of communicating in a public speaking setting. Don’t get me wrong, I was confident that I would “do well” with my talks. However, I could never quite get the hang of how to start a talk powerfully, how to properly prepare for a talk, and I certainly had no clue what to do with my hands, or the rest of my body, when I was up on the stage.

For me, what I lacked in technical skills related to public speaking, I compensated with passion and the powerful stories from the life that I’ve been blessed to live. I knew that it was time for me to take my public speaking to “the next level.” This is why I chose to attend the SCORRE CONFERENCE.

Rather than writing about what I learned, the following video, alone, will demonstrate just how much of an impact the SCORRE Conference has had on my ability to communicate.

Do you desire to communicate more effectively?

Do you desire to have such a focus on what you are communicating that people will remember the points of your talks weeks later?

Would you benefit by having a simple outline that would assist you in the preparation of any message that you need to communicate?

Do you wish to become more intentional and at ease with your stage presence when speaking in front of others?

Would you like to become more confident in your ability to communicate in front of others?

Then you should sight up for the SCORRE Conference today!

Cliff -- I'm having trouble deciding what to do. Our radio station publishes every live show to our RSS feed and I feel it is too much.. This is amounts to 3-5+ episodes every day of the week.  I'm just concerned about new subscribers unsubscribing because it is filling their hard drives and mobile players..  What say you?

Cliff- funny you should bring up this topic.  I just had the thought last week to consider occasionally publishing a "bonus" episode in addition to my regular weekly Thursday podcast.  One of the reasons I considered this is that I am 3-4 interviews ahead on my recordings.  I thought maybe if I announced ahead of time there would be a special bonus episode next week, the audience might like it.  I would be curious to get your thoughts on this idea of a bonus episode here and there.

Thanks, Wooden Boat Dan

@DanMattson My thoughts are that it would break your consistency and I would advice you to not do it for the same three reasons that I chose not to go to multiple episodes, as shared in this episode. ;)

@Cliff Ravenscraft @DanMattson

Thanks Cliff - I think the overfeeding thing is the main drawback, and lack of consistency.

I have wondered how John Dumas can publish such rich content DAILY and it works super well for him.  Is there an exception to the rule?

@DanMattson Dan, here's one thing that I am almost certain of.  Those who are listening to your weekly podcast and my weekly podcast are actually listening to EVERY SINGLE MINUTE of EVERY SINGLE EPISODE that we produce.

I am sure that there are a percentage of John's audience that are listening to every episode of his podcast.  However, I would imagine that a majority pick and choose episodes to listen to.

Great episode Cliff.  I agree with Brian and have actually stopped listening to podcasts which are produced more than once a week.  This is also one of the main reasons I went to only one show per week myself.  Yes...the download numbers look good, but vanity metrics only take you so far. I LOVE the idea of a more focused topic show and look forward to seeing where you take this.  Thanks again Cliff!

@Shelia Thanks for the feedback Sheila.  I had a strong feeling that moving to multiple episodes per week was not a wise decision.  I have to practice what I preach and I am always preaching that you do not want to over feed your audience. ;)  More focused episodes, like this, are on the way. ;)

Cliff,

Let me be the first to say I would likely stop listening all together if you went to three twenty minute shows a week.  I certainly wouldn't listen to every minute of every show the way I do now.

@Brian Wallace Brian, thanks for the feedback.  I knew, for a fact, that this would be the case for many people.  I appreciate the confirmation.  I'm certain that I'll be referring back to your comment here to show many of my future clients and students.
