snconnectInspiring Personal Plug of The Week (00:02:30)
This week’s personal plug of the week is the High-Income Business Writing Podcast with Ed Gandia. In fact, episode 22 of Ed’s podcast caused me to think of a number of valuable topics that I decided to share in this episode, while I was recording on the fly.

Some of the topics that were inspired are as follows.
- Self Confidence
- Authenticity
- Transparency
- Focusing on a specific niche audience.
- Why I subscribe to successful shows in other niche fields.

Connecting With Successful People (00:23:37)
How I have come to have such a close personal connection to several very successful individuals is a topic that seems to come up frequently when I talk with folks who are looking to get their brand noticed.

I don’t believe that there is any sort of formula for getting on someone’s radar. However, in this episode, I do share some of the insights that I have gained by tracing the steps that led me to the relationships that I have built the successful people I most wanted to do life with. Also, I have had the privilege of witnessing how others have got to the place where they also got noticed by these successful individuals.

Love what you have to say about niching. I actually wrote that exact tip in my ezine the other week! "If you try to be the perfect podcast for everyone, you'll be perfect for no one" Dan Kennedy said "You have to magnetically attract and forcibly repel." Applies to well to this whole lesson, I think!

Thanks for the podcast Cliff. I appreciate your emphasis on helping others just for the sake of helping and not expecting anything in return. I find that sometimes when I help people I have a little voice in my head that tries to justify my time by saying things like "Caleb, this will be a good contact for you in the future" or something like that. While that may be true I want my help to come with no strings attached and I don't want the person I'm helping to get a vibe from me that I'm only doing this because I think they will reciprocate in some way in the future.

I love that you talked about respecting people's time. This is SO important - I totally agree 100%.

I have direct access to a very popular podcaster, one that you know well and is quite successful. I see him pop up on Skype, and in my Facebook page whenever he's online. I've never thought once to pop in and say, "Hey X, how's it going?" or ask him for anything.

I realize if I'm this busy where I'm at, just starting my podcasting platform, imagine how much less time HE has! I think the more popular you are, the more people can see you as uncaring, or just a jerk. However, the reason you are so popular is because you care, and you are just a great guy!
It's weird how perception reverses with popularity.

Hey Cliff, lots of bloggers and podcasters discuss connecting with successful people, however I appreciate and respect your different approach.  Yours is a very selfless model, and expecting nothing in return, INCLUDING A REPLY EMAIL, is a big mindset shift that takes a little bit of pride swallowing to be okay with :-)

Thanks for the insight!

@sukofamily Caleb, the fact is that when you give out of a pure heart, it will almost always come back to you in some way.  Maybe not from the person you are directly helping, but these good things we do to serve others always have a way coming back to us in one way or another.  Eventually you get to where you understand this and you no longer get fixated on how, when, and where it will pay off. :)

@DanFranks Dan.  Thanks.  I have heard those other "formulas" for connecting with successful people.  I am very thankful for your feedback on my approach to this topic.    Yeah, that "not even a reply email" gets a lot of people. :)
