402 – Apple Watch Review From A Fitness Tracking Perspective

by Cliff Ravenscraft on April 29, 2015

AW

In this episode of Podcast Answer Man, I give my full review of the Apple Watch after having it for nearly one full week. Find out what I am absolutely in love with this device. Keep in mind, I purchased the Apple watch as a fitness tracking device first and foremost. I used to be a fan of FitBit. However, several months ago, I broke up with FitBit to focus on Heart Rate based fitness training. In fact, I spent $200 on the Mio Alpha, that did nothing more than tell me what my heart rate was while I was working out.

At any rate, in this review of the Apple Watch, I cover the following topics

– The accuracy of the heart rate monitor.
– The Workout App.
– The Activity App.
– Texting from the watch.
– Phone calls on the watch.
– The alarm app on the watch.
– The battery life of the watch.
– The reminders app on the watch.
– The airline apps for the watch.
– Checking into LA Fitness with the QR code on the watch.
– The iPhone camera remote.
– And more…

  • Cliff, I quit wearing a watch about 6 years ago. It was one of the things my smartphone replaced. When a couple of guys at church were trying to convince me I needed the Apple Watch, I told them if Apple made a chamber pot with the Apple symbol on it they would tell me to get rid of my indoor plumbing.
However, everyone should be free to purchase what they need or want without criticism. Sounds like the Apple Watch is going to be a great productivity and health tool for you. Enjoy your new tool and keep up the great work on your health journey.

  • Thanks Ken. I don’t think that everyone would be happy with an Apple watch. In fact, there are some who are into fitness who would not purchase one due to the fact that it doesn’t have a built in GPS.

I totally agree with you, though. Everyone should feel free to purchase what they need or want without criticism. I also feel that those who have them, and love them, shouldn’t be going around trying to convince others of the “need” for the device. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Great episode, thanks! Can’t wait to get mine…
Which calendar app do you use on your Iphone? I didn’t catch that in the podcast.

  • It’s called Calendars 5. Here’s the link to their site: https://readdle.com/products/calendars5

  • Great rundown Cliff.

I listened to your review whilst on a long road trip. I convinced myself that I didn’t need one. And my wife convinced me that I didn’t need one.

But now, I can’t help feel I definitely DO need one! Unfortunately, in the UK, the Apple site is saying July/August. DOH!

  • Richard, I don’t know that I would say that I “need” one. However, now that I’ve had one for several weeks, I wouldn’t “want” to be without one. As a daily reminder to hit certain fitness goals, I love it. The fact that it does so much more on top of that is just an awesome bonus. ๐Ÿ™‚ So glad you enjoyed the review. Thanks for letting me know.
