How To Sync Multiple Google Calendars With The iPad

by Cliff Ravenscraft on April 5, 2010

I’m a Google Apps user. On my Google Apps account, I have multiple Google Calendars. Currently, I use two. One for my personal scheduling. The other is a gspn.tv live show schedule that I also publish and share publicly.

I’ve been able to sync my multiple calendars to my iPhone for quite some time. However, this was not easily accomplished right out of the box with the iPad. However, thanks to my good friend, Stephen Cross, I was able to get all my calendars onto the iPad.

Before you watch the video, it is assumed that, as a Google Apps administrator, you have turned on the syncing functionality in the admins settings area of Google Apps. It is also assumed that you have already followed all of THESE INSTRUCTIONS in such a way that your default calendar is already syncing to your iPad. If this is the case, this video will show you how you can use Safari to sync all your Google Calendars from Google Apps to the iPad.

Update: Here’s that URL mentioned in the video:
https://m.google.com:433/sync/settings/a/ENTER-YOUR-URL/iconfig/device

I know that this video isn’t really Podcast & New Media related. However, I knew enough people were looking for a solution to this problem that it made sense to create this and put it online.

I’ll be giving my full review of the iPad in episode 113 of Help I Got A Mac later this week.

By The Way… The above video plays right inside this website on the iPad! YouTube! You guys rock!

Thank you, Cliff, for the suggestion. I'll check it out now and update.

Adam, Sorry to hear you are having issues. I know this worked back when I posted this. However, if they have changed anything since then, I'm afraid that I don't have any sort of updates.

I'd suggest looking at this link for an answer:

Hi Cliff! I'm following your directions, however, when I type my URL [ https://m.google.com:443/sync/settings/a/livetr... ] I'm getting this message returned:

[Google Sync allows Contacts and Calendar synchronization with many phones. To find out if your phone is supported and learn how to set up Google Sync visit the Google Mobile website on your computer.
m.google.com/sync]

Any thoughts? Thank you in advance!

Adam

This information is for people who have a "Google Apps" account. It's like a business version of Gmail & Google Calendar. Basically, it's where you have your own domain URL that you allow Google to mainage for your email communications.

Let's just assume that you had the domain "fraenkel.com" That would be your URL!

To learn more about Google Apps, you can read more about it at the following link:

http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/group/index....

Hope this helps.

Hi Cliff. This podcast gives very detailed information. Except where I am lost is at the YOURURL part.
What is My URL and where do I find it? I don't own a website, all I know is my IP address but that doesn't seem to work :

"Sorry, you've reached a login page for a domain that isn't using Google Apps. Please check the web address and try again"

Can you please give the explanation of the YOURURL here, sincere regards.

Eric.

Will, Thanks for the comments on the video and congrats on the purchase of your iPad!!!

I'm reading and responding to you comment while leaning back in comfy chair in my living room. LOVE IT!

As for making the video, I use a program called ScreenFlow for the Mac. Since I purchased it, I have never used another video editor.

So what are your favorite apps on the iPad?

Great video, Cliff. Today is my first day with my iPad and I think it's great! Typing this comment from it actually.
Are you using iMovie for the transitions and layout? That was a great presentation.

Thanks Lee. I have tons of ideas for more videos. Just need to "MAKE" time to do them. ;)

Cliff, I really liked this video, even if I don't have an iPad yet. More of these videos in the future would be welcome.

By the way, also love the new site design!

Post has been updated with the link just below the video. Thanks Andy!

Thanks brother!! That worked like a charm. Only problem that I ran into is that I didn't type in the URL right! Can you post that into the post? Might be easier to cut and paste it than to read it off of the YouTube video? Thanks brother.
