479 – Why Being Authentic Matters

In college, I was a theatre minor. In acting classes, they teach you that regardless what is going on in your real life, you simply must put it aside when you are on the stage. You are there to perform for the audience and you are expected to “play the character” that is prescribed for the production.

Every now and then, it’s easy for us, as podcasters, to feel like we need to “put on a performance” for our audience. I understand the need for someone, like myself, to build a professional reputation to represent my business well. However, I feel that it is important that we don’t lose touch of the importance of authenticity.

In this week’s episode, I share a few emails that reminded me just how valuable it is when I’m just being myself behind the microphone, sharing my authentic journey, week after week.

PodcastMastermind-300In this episode of Podcast Answer Man, I share one of the top five most difficult decisions that I’ve had to make in my business. February 2014 marks the second anniversary of The Podcast Mastermind. In spite of the fact that it was responsible for generating over $57,000 in profit for my business in 2013, alone, I made the decision to completely shut it down. The difficulty of this decision has nothing to do with the loss of the $57K and has everything to do with the amazing benefits that have come as a result of being a part of seeing massive life change in the lives of the members that it served.

This is now my favorite episode of Podcast Answer Man to date. In it, you will learn why I had to shut down The Podcast Mastermind. You’ll also get a valuable insight into the type of commitment that I have to my business and my desire to always under promise and over deliver on every commitment that I make to those I work with in any way.

I hope that you find this episode an entertaining source of education, encouragement and inspiration. If so, I would be honored if you would consider asking others to have a listen in your social media channels. Also, I would love to hear your feedback related to this episode in the comments below.

snconnectInspiring Personal Plug of The Week (00:02:30)
This week’s personal plug of the week is the High-Income Business Writing Podcast with Ed Gandia. In fact, episode 22 of Ed’s podcast caused me to think of a number of valuable topics that I decided to share in this episode, while I was recording on the fly.

Some of the topics that were inspired are as follows.
– Self Confidence
– Authenticity
– Transparency
– Focusing on a specific niche audience.
– Why I subscribe to successful shows in other niche fields.

Connecting With Successful People (00:23:37)
How I have come to have such a close personal connection to several very successful individuals is a topic that seems to come up frequently when I talk with folks who are looking to get their brand noticed.

I don’t believe that there is any sort of formula for getting on someone’s radar. However, in this episode, I do share some of the insights that I have gained by tracing the steps that led me to the relationships that I have built the successful people I most wanted to do life with. Also, I have had the privilege of witnessing how others have got to the place where they also got noticed by these successful individuals.
