Changes To This Podcast
I spent twenty minutes of this episode talking about changes that I had made to my production of Podcast Answer Man from episodes 409 through 418, the results of those changes and my content strategy for this podcast moving forward.

Check out my Pursuing A Balanced Life podcast (00:20:06)
In this episode, I shared a request for you to take a listen to three recent episodes of my Pursuing A Balanced Life podcast. Below are the links to the three episodes I mentioned.

Episode 625 – My New Mission Statement

iTunes Ranking Algorithm (00:24:03)
Today In Podcasting is a podcast that was very consistent from February 2006 through February 2008. Since that time, the hosts of the show have occasionally released a new episode. Recently, I was honored to do an episode of this podcast with Gary Leland, Rob Walch and Paul Colligan. During the episode, Rob had shared some research that he had done that revealed the algorithm that iTunes uses for its ranking of the top podcasts in each category of iTunes. That algorithm is given and broken down here in this episode.

Copywriting Tips to Persuade and Profit from Ray Edwards (00:32:00)
I was looking for ways to take my email and written marketing to the next level. I often struggle with writing great emails and crafting compelling sales messages in written form.

In the past, I've simply relied on the simple,“Here’s what I have; it’s good; buy it if you want to.” The fact is that this has worked with some mild success. However, I know that I could get my valuable products into the hands of more people if I were to take my copywriting skills to the next level.

The cool thing is that I happen to be very close friends with one of the masters of Copywriting. Ray Edwards has worked as a communications strategist and copywriter for some of the most powerful voices in leadership and business. Some of his clients include New York Times best-selling authors Tony Robbins, Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen (co-authors of Chicken Soup For the Soul), Jeff Walker and many more.

I had Ray join me in this episode to share some tips that will help you write copy that persuades, promotes and boosts the sales of your products and services.

Also, as a bonus, Ray has agreed to give my community two free gifts when they sign up to watch the free training mentioned in the interview.

First Gift – 3 Email Templates that will help propel your email marketing into overdrive…

Second Gift – 100 Headline Templates that “grab your readers by the eyeballs” every time!

A New iTunes Description for Podcast Answer Man

Today, I spent sometime updating the iTunes description of the Podcast Answer Man podcast.

The old description used to start off with “This is THE PODCAST about Podcasting! Helping you take your show to the “next level.” However, this no longer accurately describes what each podcast episode is focused on. For this reason, I’ve changed the description to the following…

Thanks for checking out the Podcast Answer Man podcast. My name is Cliff Ravenscraft (aka The Podcast Answer Man). I started podcasting, as a hobby, back in December 2005. Since that time, I've created more than 30 different shows and have produced over 3,200 podcast episodes of my very own.

In December 2006, I launched this Podcast Answer Man podcast and my podcast coaching/consulting business at PodcastAnswerMan.com. I have personally helped thousands of people launch extremely successful podcasts through one-on-one coaching and consulting and through my Podcasting A to Z online training course.

My free podcasting tutorial at LearnHowToPodcast.com has been used by tens of thousands of people. Thousands of these folks were able to use what they learned there to launch a podcast without needing to purchase a single product or service from me, which was my goal.

I believe that podcasting has the power to change the world, one person at a time. I've experienced this firsthand and I left my eleven year career in insurance, in January 2008, to pursue my passion for podcasting, full-time, and helping others launch their own podcasting journey.

This show started out as a podcast all about the technical details and procedures related to podcasting. However, after a few hundred weekly episodes (I'm nearing episode 400 as I am writing this updated description), I had got to the place where pretty much every question that had ever come in had been answered at some point in the archives.

I have found that an overwhelming majority of my audience already have a podcast and no longer need all the basic technical information related to podcasting. Instead, they tune in each week to hear me share my thoughts and insights on personal branding, building relationships with your audience, growing a business around your podcast, as well as personal and professional development.

Just to be clear, this show has a good amount of focus on my own personal journey through podcasting and building my own personal brand. Many episodes are made up of me sharing what I am facing in my own business/brand and what I'm learning through the process.

It is my mission share these experiences in hope that they will be a source of entertainment, education, encouragement and inspiration to those who are on a similar journey. My goal, for this show, is to help you take your message, your business and your life to the next level.

If you are looking for the basics on the technical details of Podcasting. I suggest that you start out with my free tutorial at http://LearnHowToPodcast.com. From there, check out the sidebar of my website at http://PodcastAnswerMan.com. You will find it very easy to find all the information that you are looking for. I've spent well over 10,000 hours building all the technical content, related to podcasting, that you'll find on my website.

Catching Up On Voice Messages
In this week's episode of Podcast Answer Man, I share my latest thoughts as I continue to daydream about what life will be like when I am in my new studio space once our new home construction is complete.

Also, in this episode, I answer six questions that were called into the voicemail feedback hotline.

Social Media Marketing World
In this episode of Podcast Answer Man, I talk with Michael Stelzner from Social Media Examiner. The main focus of our conversation is to discuss what the Social Media Marketing World Conference is about and who, specifically, should consider attending. (Starts at 00:38:57)

Podcasting Patent Update
Special thanks to Gabe DiMaio for pointing me to the Ars Technica article titled… “Patent troll CEO explains why company wants names of EFF donors.” The articles explains… “The CEO and general counsel of Personal Audio LLC got on the phone with Ars Technica to explain why the company is asking for the identities of more than 1,300 donors who have chipped in to help the Electronic Frontier Foundation fight its podcasting patent.” Link to full article

330 Skype Is Shutting Off Access To Pamela And Call Reorder (UPDATE), Stats Addiction And More

snskypeSkype Cutting Access To Software Recorders
I've recently been informed that Skype is shutting down it's desktop API in December 2013. This will affect podcasters who rely on software plugins like Pamela or Call Recorder to record Skype conversations for their podcasts. Skype has a brief note about this on their support website. The developers behind the Pamela Plugin for the PC also have a post about this on their support website. I had Erik Fisher join me to talk about this subject in this episode. (Topic Starts At 00:48:42) (NOTE: SEE SKYPE UPDATE BELOW)

Skype Desktop API Update
Great news! Skype has decided to cancel it's plans to stop supporting their desktop API after December of this year. In a blog post on 11/6/2013, they said, “Previously we shared that we would retire the Desktop API later this year. However, I’m happy to share that we will be extending support for two of the most widely used features – call recording and compatibility with hardware devices.”

This means that if you are using Skype recording software that works today, it will continue to be supported beyond December of this year!

Product Pages Get An Upgrade (00:07:23)
I'll eventually get around to updating the listing for each of my digital training tutorials found on my products page. However, in this episode, I share what I've been working on as far as creating stand alone pages that are used to actually deliver these tutorials.

While I was creating these new pages, I updated my Inside The Studio tutorial with three brand new tutorials. In the episode, I shared my encouragement to get this tutorial at the $75 price while you can. I will be raising the cost of this tutorial to $100 VERY SOON.

Stats Addiction (00:18:14)
Erik Fisher and I have an updated discussion on the topic of having too much focus on our download stats and our iTunes Rankings. Listen to the episode to find out our thoughts on this.

Twitter Allows You To Receive DM's from people you don't follow (00:39:01)
Erik and I also discuss Twitter's new functionality that allows you to “opt-in” to the ability to receive direct messages from anyone on Twitter, even if you are not following them.
