Working Out The Kinks With My Live Stream (00:04:14)
Some of you know that I have been broadcasting a live stream of the recording of my podcasts since 2006. Until recently, I never really talked about this a great deal. However, in the past few episodes, I’ve mentioned that I’ve been looking to take my YouTube video content to the next level by uploading the recordings of my live stream broadcasts to my YouTube Channel.
Prior to publishing the videos to my YouTube channel, I was fully satisfied with a lower quality video stream, as long as it gave those in the chat room a peak into what was happening in my studio with a “behind the scenes” feel. However, now that I am looking to record and upload these videos to YouTube, I’ve decided to broadcast and record in HD. This has caused quite a few technical issues that I’ve had to work through. I spent the a good deal of this episode sharing my story about what I had to go through to get things to where they are today. I still have several technical details to work out, such as audio sync issues when I upload the Ustream Recording to YouTube. More on that in next week’s episode.
My Thoughts On Live Streaming & Video In General (00:34:25)
It’s been quite some time since I’ve shared my overall thoughts on the topic of live streaming your podcast. I typically warn all new podcasters to stay away from live streaming their podcast for the first six months, at least. In this episode, I share why I hold that position.
Also, I share my thoughts on video content, in general. If I didn’t make it perfectly clear, in this episode, I want to state that I do love great video content. However, when it comes to podcasting, I really only enjoy video podcasts that contain content that is really made for video. Even then, I have a very limited amount of time that I can devote to “screen time” for such content and, therefore, I am only subscribed to two video podcasts. If I have screen time, I’d almost rather be watching a movie, a tv show, or playing a video game.
