In this episode, I give my review of of iTalk. (iTunes link) iTalk is a new sound recording app for iPhone, iPhone 3G, and 2nd generation iPod touch that turns the iPhone or iPod touch into a mobile audio recorder.

I’ve been using the the application to record several episodes of my daily audio journal podcast titled “My Crazy Life.” However, I’m becoming increasingly more frustrated with the audio glitches that I point out in this review. I’m at the point that I love this application to just let it go. I’m contacting Griffin Support on Monday to see if I can find out if they are aware of this issue.

  • AIFF tends to be used more on Mac while WAV tends to be used more on Windows but the format (Audio Interchange File Format) is a standard not Apple proprietary format. It was co-developed by Apple.
  • Okay, so Stephanie's "first gen" iPhone didn't do this on the 1st two recordings she did, but it did show up one time on her third episode. Just 1 time compared to like 8 times on my phone in my last recording.

I just got off the phone with Griffin Tech Support.

They have heard about this issue. They said that from everyone they've talked to, simply deleting the software and reinstalling it has cleared this up for them.

This does not sound like a fix to me. Especially since it's happening on two different iPhones that we have.

However, I'll play along. I'm deleting the iTalk Application off both our iPhones and off iTunes.

I'll download it via iTunes this time, instead of via the 3G connection over the iPhone.

    I'll keep you posted!
  • I'm sorry the iTalk may need a software upgrade. What's weird, is this: Even though my 1st gen iPhone doesn't have as good of a microphone as the 3g iPhone, I haven't had that buzz/glitch noise appear at all. I've recorded a few 5+ minute plus test podcasts with mine, and no glitches yet.

I hope they can track down the root cause of the glitches, because this App's potential is very exciting!
