Thank you for the link. I've been listening to the recommended episode by now and the audio quality is pretty laudable, especially given the environment it came about.
Obviously the Eridol was also hardly noticeable since the waiters seemingly didn't realize that you were audio-taping the conversation with Mignon.

The link of audio examples I gave has ONLY quite good recorders in it, btw..
The example on the German site had some slightly acoustic noise with the Edirol which I couldn't find in the podcast episode. (Could that be a problem for low voice - recording?)
Some of the customers were all passion about this piece of equipment, while others critizised the plastic body of it, compared to some of the Olympus-recorders with their metalbody over there.

Very nice, the comparison between the Eridol-parts, which are perfectly comprehensible in acoustic terms and the (as I presume) Heil-parts in-between: the Heil mic seems to be quite something. Thanks again, David
  • David,

As an professional audio equipment reseller, I have get a lot of recorders in for review. There are things that other recorders may do better than the Edirol.

However, when considering the overall package, all the things important to me, I still believe the Edirol is the best of the bunch.

By the way, the interview found in Episode 136 of Podcast Answer Man was recorded with the built in mics of the Edirol recorder. As for the In Studio part, the audio was recorded straight from the audio mixer into the Edirol recorder.

Here's a link to that episode:

I think the quality of the Edirol is pretty nice.

Hello Cliff, thank you for your website.
Have found quite a few tipps on podcasting which come in very handy.

As for your love for the Edirol R ...:
Perhaps you like to compare some recordings of different voice recorders - would it support your recommendation. See for yourself:

It's a German website; simply scoll down until you see some audio examples (four groups of them; in orange letters). Pretty much self-explaining.
    Some hints/translations:

Im Wald = in the woods

Geräuschkulisse im Marburger Bahnhof = background noise at the railwaystation (Marburg)

Chorgesangsprobe mit etwa 60 Personen =
Church Choir practice ( 60 people)

Einzelinterview / kleine Gruppe: Interviews/small group talk

    Have fun!
    David
