Podcast Answer Man Episode 134
gspn.tv Studio Tour

It’s not very often that I put a video episode into the Podcast Answer Man podcast feeds, let alone a 30 minute one. However, the community has been begging for a video tour of the gspn.tv studio for the longest time.

Until recently, I’ve never been happy with the video quality that I’ve got with my video projects. That has all changed now with my Kodak Zi8 pocket HD Camera.

In this video, I explain how I use each computer in my studio as well as show you the the equipment that I make use of in my podcast productions.

  • That was awesome! I didn't even know this existed until James (nlcast) tweeted about it. I just got the Kodak Zx1 and love it! So easy to use and such great quality :)
  • Glad you enjoyed it Stephanie!

Cliff - Outstanding video...keep it up!
  • Bret,

First off, thanks for the fantastic feedback in the comment section of the video tour! I'm glad that it was a source of encouragement that it doesn't have to cost $100,000 to do a podcast effectively. In fact, I'm able to help my consulting clients reproduce my audio quality for about $1,500 and have helped so many more get pretty darn close for about $500 to $700.

Of course, I started podcasting with only $60 invested in equipment and that "can be" done today.

If you ever want to discuss equipment needs or possible consulting for podcasting, please do give me a call.

Thanks for subscribing to Podcast Answer Man!

First off, fantastic episode! The visual tour of your studio was extremely educational. The tour put "what-it-takes-to-podcast" into proper perspective. If you look at the Twit setup, it makes podcasting look like something that mere mortals wouldn't even dream of trying. After seeing your tour, I can see exactly what I need to get started and what I can plan for in the future without draining the bank account. Thanks again for taking the time to give the tour. Keep up the amazing work.
  • @Jeff, I love PodProducer... Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
  • @Jason, Yeah I figured that would show up... I have some fun projects lined up.. Taking requests from the community here:

  • @MIke Yes my webcams are Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision. They no longer make them, but easily picked up on Ebay. They are are Stardard Def and work great with Mac.
  • Thanks for the tour. I always find interesting how everyone setups their studio. I knew you used some sort of audio software for the music and comment queue, but didn't know what. For some reasons I just never asked, now I know, Podproducer. I've downloaded and plan on using it with my next recording session. It should reduced the problems I've had dealing with my bumpers and comments.

Thanks for the show Cliff, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Although probably unintentional, I did also like the "sneak peak" of upcoming products for sale. Keep up the good work!
  • Cliff-
Nice tour of the studio. The quality of the ZI8 really showed. There was some crisp detail as you highlighted some of your gear. I can see the potential of this camera as you embark on bringing us additional video content.

I'm curious about those desktop, cylindrical webcams that were on your desk and on the tripod. Are those Logitechs? Guessing they are standard Def USB cams? Are they connected to the Mac Mini for your uStream feed?
  • Yeah I remember from the days I used to do green screen recordings. It can get very hot and unpleasant.

Thank you for your fast response and answer, always appreciate it! :-)

    Take care.
  • Lee,

Thanks for the comment on the site. As for the quality, it may have to do with the lighting that I set up. I had plenty of light on me for that video. This is critical when shooting inside.

By the time I finished recording, the temperature of my studio was about 84 degrees from the heat of all the light bulbs. ;)
  • Loved it Cliff.

I have the Zi8 too as you know and kinda have the impression that your video quality is somehow better than mine. Regardless, nice job!

    More please!
  • Russ,

Thanks so much for leaving a comment on the show notes.

Glad you felt there was value in me sharing the tour of my studio.

When you're ready to get the mic, just let me know.

    Have a great night

    Cliff
  • Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. It was very helpful to see how an "expert" works his magic.

BTW I can't wait till I get one of those awesome mics.
