477 – How To Avoid Overwhelm, Stress And Burnout

by Cliff Ravenscraft on November 23, 2016

When you are trying to get something new off the ground, there seems to be an ever increasing list of high priority projects that need to be accomplished. I know, from personal experience, that trying to do too much can be overwhelming, stressful and potentially lead to burnout.

In this week’s podcast, I share five steps that I have learned to take to avoid overwhelm, stress and burnout when it comes to consistently taking my online business efforts to the next level.

1. Commit to having a mindset of gratitude and positivity.
2. Consistently reprioritize your ongoing project list.
3. Choose one thing to focus on and say not to all other projects.
4. Embrace Grace. You can’t do everything!
5. Never neglect the top five priorities outside of work. (sleep, physical fitness, family, friends and recreation)

Unfortunately stress is not avoidable…in personal life or in business. Sometimes it even projects one to another – like when your personal stress influences your work stress. That just happens sometimes no matter how professional you are!

BUT I believe that the good thing about all this is the fact that it’s possible to control the way stress influences you! I mean, it’s like you said Cliff, no one is immune to it and the part in this episode where you talked about how you should refuse to see any problem as bigger then it already is – that’s exactly what I’m talking about! Problems will occur because that’s the way life works, and by recognizing them and acknowledging their real size (and by that I really mean not making them bigger nor smaller then they actually are) can help you work on a solution faster then any other reaction!

  • Anja, Fair point. I agree that we can’t escape stressful circumstances. My main focus is avoiding the stress, overwhelm and burnout that we can often bring upon ourselves by trying to say yes to too many things while, unfortunately, saying no to several vital areas of our lives. I appreciate your thoughtful feedback on the topic. Thank you for listening!
